También es parte de la Agrupación Arpilleristas de Angachilla y desarrolla actividades de cuenta cuentos con otros libros textiles, escritos y elaborados por ella. Posteriormente debió salir exiliado a Suecia junto a su esposa y pequeños hijos, retornando casi dos décadas después a Chile, un extraño país que ya no es el territorio imaginario que habitaba en la memoria de los desterrados, que jamás cesaron de añorar el regreso. Este libro está dedicado a aquellos que compartieron con el autor la dureza carcelaria en Valdivia, y también a quienes convivieron con tortuosa experiencia obligada del exilio. Su lectura nos sumerge en una inquietante recapitulación de la historia reciente, aquella que yace semioculta en el recuerdo de cada una de las víctimas de la violencia desatada por la dictadura cívico militar. Por su vocación solidaria, Higinio Delgado, cuarenta y dos años después, asistiendo a una ceremonia recordatoria en el Penal de Isla Teja, vuelve a recorrer el camino a su celda. Y desde ahí surge el hilo del recuerdo enhebrando este relato que singulariza y dignifica a tantos prisioneros políticos, con quienes compartió años de prisión. Ejercer el derecho a la memoria, aquella que construye la historia popular que subsiste, casi clandestina, bajo la historia oficial supeditada a los intereses del poder, es un acto de resistencia que confiere continuidad a aquella lucha por la cual tantos han ido quedando en el camino. Página a página avanzamos hacia el pasado que transcurre sobre las páginas de esta "guerra que no fue", retratada por la persistencia de su autor, como un ejemplo de fortaleza de principios de quien no fue derrotado por la cárcel y el exilio. Algo más de ochenta encarcelados en el presidio de la Isla Teja de Valdivia, tras casi cuarenta años de olvido, se hacen presente en las páginas de este recordatorio, donde los recuerdos se reconstruyen metódicamente, con un dejo fraterno, aportando información de cada uno de los compañeros de cárcel del autor y que habitan en su memoria. Los compañeros del MIR, simbolizado dramáticamente en la voz de Fernando Kraus entonando La Morena desde su celda de castigo, ante su inexorable fusilamiento. Se hacen presente los prisioneros de la Universidad Austral y de la Universidad Técnica. También se consigna a compañeros de origen campesino, que de la cárcel salieron al exilio y retornaron a continuar la lucha el año 81 en Neltume, donde fueron asesinados... "Recuerdos de una guerra que no fue", es un certero ejemplo digno de ser imitado, a lo largo y ancho de este país, como una forma de develar y otorgar reconocimiento a los miles de víctimas de la dictadura, cuyo padecer debe trocarse en aquella memoria escrita que construya un futuro de justicia e igualdad por la que tantos, como Higinio Delgado, continúan luchando. PRí“LOGO El Golpe de Estado del 73 zanjó brutalmente el país. írboles y pájaros. Raíces y aves migratorias, eso fuimos. Destierro, obligada lejanía de la patria, desalojo de los habitantes de su territorio, exilio. Quienes profesaban ideas de justicia social, de solidaridad con los desposeídos, con los pobres del campo y la ciudad, en palabras del presidente Salvador Allende, fueron castigados por la férrea mano del Régimen Militar. No lo hemos olvidado. Su grave recuerdo se ha mantenido por décadas en la memoria. Pero el olvido realiza su sórdida labor desmantelando la memoria colectiva y los recuerdos se ocultan en cada uno de aquellos que sufrieron en carne propia la destrucción de un sueño de igualdad. Así, la memoria de ese Chile se extiende desde el territorio de adentro hasta el territorio del exilio que habitaron y aún habitan tantos compatriotas, junto a otros cuyo destino fue "el ir repartiendo huesos por todos lados", como testimonia el exiliado Eduardo Morris, entrevistado en este libro. La herida ha sido grande y coser sus bordes, juntar los trozos del país, es una tarea pendiente. La historia de adentro y de afuera, una historia sufrida por chilenos en distintos territorios y por la misma causa y la necesidad de unirlas, es lo que impulsa a Higinio Delgado. El sabe que aún no conocemos en profundidad cuán trascendente fue la labor solidaria realizada por j exiliados, y en Suecia particularmente, en el proceso I de lucha contra la Dictadura y recuperación de la democracia en Chile. Y nos relata cómo la cultura y el arte fueron las principales armas con que combatieron desde el exilio. Con él recorremos la ruta de los refugiados desde i finales de 1973 hasta 1992, a través de las vivencias de 18 exiliados/as de Chile. Mujeres y hombres desgarrados de su tierra. La diversidad de nuestro país representada por pintores, poetas, escritores, cantantes, músicos, actores de teatro, profesores, cineastas, estudiantes, fotógrafos, cientistas políticos, dirigentes estudiantiles... Todos ellos aportando su esfuerzo y creación a lo que podríamos definir como un movimiento de resistencia cultural en el exilio. De ahí la gran importancia de este trabajo que comparte la dolorosa experiencia del desarraigo, pero a la vez la poderosa capacidad demostrada para adaptarse a una cultura tan distinta, y crear desde allí fortaleza y apoyo al "país de adentro". Y sobre todo es un aporte que ayuda a develar la fábula del "exilio dorado", que desde luego muy pocos vivieron. La gran mayoría sufrió el destierro como resultado inevitable de la destrucción do la democracia, la persecución política, la cárcel. El exilio está muy ignorado. No pedimos nada a cambio, ni siquiera que nos den las gracias. Pero no queremos el olvido (...) Hoy día estamos tan pobres como cuando salimos...", nos testimonia la profesora Cecilia Valdés, exiliada en Suecia desde 1976. Cuando las nuevas generaciones tan lejanas ya de esta historia pregunten: ¿Y porqué se fueron?, podrán encontrar la respuesta en este libro donde Higinio Delgado da cuenta y reúne diversas voces del exilio chileno, para ir recomponiendo el inconcluso mapa de la memoria de Chile.
